The Pahari style got its name from the Himalaya hill (Pahari) states in the northwest region, where it flourished from the 17th – 19th century. It was closely allied to the Rajput style in both subject matter and technique. The Kangra style was a more refined form, with calmer colors and a strong Mughal influence, due to the proximity of the Kangra region to Delhi and Lucknow.
