Khalid Iqbal was the creator and guiding force of the 1970s Punjab landscape school. His innate talent was honed at the Slade School of Art in London. He taught at Punjab University Lahore and at the National College of Arts where he served as one of the most beloved principals. Iqbal’s semi-Impressionist technique captures the mood and essence of the Punjabi landscape around Lahore. He painted on site with keen interest in how the atmosphere—rain, fog, sunlight— affected the world around him. These trees with their bright red flowers that offer their beauty for a short time only are a common sight in the springtime in Lahore.
