Sadequain was threatened, taken to court and several paintings in his solo exhibition in the mid 1970s were destroyed by religious factions vehemently opposed to his display of nudes and social/political commentaries. The commentary in this painting is personal for the artist. The Daughter of Vine dangling grapes, tempts the artist with wine from the flask at her feet. The Daughter of Eve meanwhile cradles his canvases lamenting the distraction from his work. Sadequain was torn between his love of alcohol and its prohibition in Islam. Cirrhosis of the liver caused his premature death.
