Black sweatshirt commemorating Joseph J. Lewandoski's win in the 165 pound classification at the 1935 New Jersey Association of the Amateur Athletic Union weightlifting championship.
The front of the shirt is printed with a gold medallion that reads "New Jersey Association Championship" around the edge. The center of the medallion shows a female figure with uplifted arms and wings. Next to the figure is a symbol that may representing weightlifting and the letters "U.S." Below the medallion is the signature of Joseph J. Lewandoski underlined and in the same gold print as the medallion.
The back of the shirt is printed with the reverse side of the medallion also in gold. The lettering reads, "'35, Weight Lifting, 165 Lbs." A laurel wreath surrounds the outer edge with what appears to be the NJ state crest at the top.
Size large. 50% cotton and 50% acrylic. Made in USA by U.S. Sweats.

Although not much is known about Lewandoski, a November 3, 1935, article in the New Brunswick "Sunday Times" (p.2) indicates that he portrayed "Sampson, the Strong Man" in a YMCA Amateur Night event.
