Black and white photograph of the cement counterweight and sign over the Causeway bridge being destroyed. The view is from the South River side of the bridge looking towards Sayreville. Portions of the sign are still decipherable, 'Sayreville, Home of Nationally Known Industries, All Munic[ipal Services Low Taxes], "Where [Industry Prospers].""
The back of the photograph has a handwritten note that reads, "Sayreville, Sign Shattered." A date is also stamped in red, "Oct 31,1966."
A similar photograph was used in an October 25, 1966 article in the Daily Home News with the caption, "Explosive situation - Dynamite charges shatter portions of the counterweight of the Causeway bridge, linking South River and Sayreville, as repairs go forward on the drawbridge damaged Oct. 4 when a barge banged into its lifting mechanism."
