Description

Black and white photograph of the cement counterweight and sign over the Causeway bridge being destroyed. The view is from the South River side of the bridge looking towards Sayreville. A similar photograph was used in an October 25, 1966 article in the Daily Home News with the caption, "Explosive situation - Dynamite charges shatter portions of the counterweight of the Causeway bridge, linking South River and Sayreville, as repairs go forward on the drawbridge damaged Oct. 4 when a barge banged into its lifting mechanism." ["New Problems Crop Up To Block Bridge Traffic," Daily Home News, Oct. 25, 1966, p. 1] Measures 10" x 8".
