Description

Photograph of a woman and two girls during the opening ceremony held in the Council chambers in the Borough Hall on November 6, 1970 for the celebration of South River's 250th anniversary. At the left is Eva C. Bissett, Queen Riverie during the 1920 celebration for South River's 200th anniversary. The two girls are Taryn Thomas, Queen of South River for the 250th anniversary, and Dawn Matts, a lady in waiting. Thomas is wearing a crown and a cape and holding a bouquet and a scepter. A decorative arch is behind the trio and a floral piece with "250" in the middle is in the foreground. A note handwritten on the back in blue ink reads " November 1970, Queen Riverie - Miss Eva C. Bissett, 200th Anniversary, 1920; Queen of South River - Miss Taryn Thomas, 10 yrs., 250th Anniversary, 1970; Lady in waiting = Miss Dawn Matts, 10.yrs." "Photography by Harold Rosenthal, 37 Washington Street, South River, NJ 08882" is stamped on the back in black ink. The left edge has the remains of an orange sticker. Additional small markings have been made in the white border on the front of the photograph. Black and white photograph measures 8" x 10" and is in good condition.
