Description

Photograph of Queen Riverie and her court taken during the celebration of South River's 200th Anniversary on September 24 and 25, 1920. The Queen and her court of fourteen people are posed on and around the float that carried them during the anniversary parade. One of the horses that pulled the float is partially visible at the left side of the picture. The photograph appears to have been taken in front of the grandstand at the foot of Main Street. Bleachers draped with bunting are visible in the background. The right bottom corner of the photograph includes handwritten text printed as part of the image which reads: "Moore Photo". The mat surrounding the photograph is embossed with decorative borders and in the bottom right corner printed text reads: "Moore's Studio, South River, N.J". Photograph is a duplicate of Accession number 2016.008.071 but the exposure on this print is darker. Photograph measures 7 3/4" X 9 1/2" attached to a mat measuring 12'" X 14". Mat and photograph are in fair condition, although mat has water damage along the bottom that is visible on both sides and ran into the bottom of the photograph. There is wear throughout the mat and a tear in the bottom right corner that goes through the printed text for Moore's Studio. A label appears on the back of the mat reading: "Property of: Woodis & Warren Booraem, 208 Main Street, South River NJ 08882; (908) 257 - 0365". Handwritten text above the label reads: "1920" in blue ink. Along the bottom on the back of the mat there is handwritten text in pencil that is largely illegible. Some words and names that can be made out are "Anniversary", "Eva Bissett", and a bracket around a list of names.
