Glenmora History

Description

the first settler to the area was John Britt in 1866. The first post office was in 1892 and that same year the Watkins railroad was completed. Its depot was named "Glenmora" after a niece of the railroad owner. Originally the area was being called Johns Town as there were 5 Johns that lived there/helped settle to area. A. D. Spencer came in 1893 to start Spencer Timber sales and then closing in 1895 and opening Crowell & Spencer Lumber Co.'s to its first sawmill for long leaf (called Long Leaf Mill).
