commanded the Sixth United States Army in the South West Pacific Area during World War II. In 1941, he assumed command of the Third Army (Blue Army), which he led in the Louisiana Maneuvers. In 1943 he was sent to General Douglas MacArthur's Southwest Pacific Area as commander of the Sixth Army and Alamo Force, which led a series of successful campaigns against the Japanese.Person
