Roman Andrus was for many years a prominent and respected artist and educator in Utah. Much of his youth was spent in the hills and canyons of Southern Utah, where he observed the structures of the landscape, its masses and spaces, and its rhythms and breaks. The knowledge and experience he gained wandering the canyons later influenced his drawings and paintings. Andrus went on to found Brigham Young University’s printmaking program and was chairman of the department twice during his career of teaching painting and drawing. Andrus’s works have a mysterious and angelic feel to them. We can see that nature heavily influences his works. While his prints aren’t just regular landscapes, the closer you look the more you can see nature presented in rhythms and forms. His underlying landscapes remind one of another world. This print emulates Andrus's use of whimsy and rhythm. This isn’t a print of a mountain or sunset yet it seems to be an ethereal landscape. It resembles a river, mountain peaks, and even clouds displayed in Andrus' unique style in this piece.
