Louisa J. Carlson had been born in Cuppleburg, Sweden on December 12, 1870. She had left her native land to be near her sister, Augusta, who had emigrated here several years previously and married August Johnson. Both young women were superb cooks, and it was in this capacity Louisa was employed.
Phillip Mashburn arriving in Spokane Falls he found employment delivering dairy products in the city for Hazelwood Dairy. His route covered a wide area of the residential section. He met his future wife, Louisa, while delivering milk to the home of a wealthy family who lived in Browne’s Addition a few doors from the Patsy Clark home.
Times were changing rapidly after the turn of the century. The automobile was coming into its own with farm families following the trend. The Mashburns were among the first families in that vicinity to buy one of those new inventions. Phillip was a bit wary of the noisy contraption and left the driving to Roy or Mabel – much to their delight.Acquisition
