Description

Black and white print of Ida and Louie Franz with Scotty the dog in front of the 1912 house. 1944 Louis Franz Finds Body The body of an unidentified man, found last week on the Louis Franz farm near Badger Lake, may be that of Hubbard Leslie Hall, who has been missing from Chicago since December 7, 1943, officials said this week. The body was found by Franz and his son while squirrel hunting, they told sheriff's deputies. Coyotes had apparently dragged the body from the brush to a clearing and the bawling of a cow led Franz to the spot. On March 25, a coat, hat, and personal papers of Hall had been found at Mock station, which is two and one-half miles from where the body was found. Chicago officials stated that Hall had left Chicago December 7, bound for Portland, Oregon. A mackinaw, and other clothing and papers belonging to him had been found on the railroad tracks near Portland. The body was badly decomposed when found, so that dental work would be the only means of identification. The sheriff's office will attempt to make the identification from the teeth.
