Photograph of Labor Day tree topping demonstration at Wendling D row looking northeast, Wendling, Oregon.
According to historian Jay Swofford: "Tree topping demonstration on Labor Day 1924 at Wendling Oregon. This was the morning demonstration and the topper is O. F. Thatcher. The bark of the tree had been burned and the ash made it hard for him to see and breathe as he worked. This was the first 4L labor day celebration at Wendling. Over 2500 people attended. Houses in foreground are part of D row."Photograph Details
