According to historian Jay Swofford, "Tree topping demonstration on Labor Day 1924 at Wendling Oregon. This was the afternoon demonstration and the topper is Tom Billings. Tom Billings topped and rigged the first ever spar tree used by Booth-Kelly at Wendling. This was the first 4L labor day celebration at Wendling. Over 2500 people attended.
