B&W Photo of a ferry crossing the Willamette. "Before there were any bridges across the Willamette people forded the river. Elias Briggs and his son ran a ferry across the river from east to west Springfield in the early 1850s. This is a picture of a typical Oregon ferry although many did not have the little wheel house on the side." Photo scanned-stored on HD2.
