B&W Postcard of Armitage State Park - Eugene, Oregon - McKenzie River.
BACK: The Oregonian. The State highway Commission tomorrow will formally accept a 40 Ace track near Eugene which S.C.Armitage, Lane County Pioneer, has donated for new State Park. The new park setting is located four miles northeast of Eugene on the McKenzie River at Armitage Bridge. The site has been given to the state by Armitage in memory of his wife , Henrietta, and in honor of his daughter, Frances.
BOARD INSPECTS SITE: Members of the highway commission Inspected the track on their recrecent tour of the state and were impressed with the beauty of the spot. Negotiations first were started for this park by Leslie M. Scott, then chairman of the commission in 1934.
Approximately 15 acres of the land was part of a donation land claim of George Henry Armitage and Sarah Jane Stevens Armitage, reputed to be the first white person married in Lane County. Mrs. Armitage came to Lane County in 1847 and her husband 1848. Mrs. Armitage made first American Flag in Lane County, and it was raised by her husband on Briggs Butte at Springfield in 1852.

A beautiful 40-acre track on the McKenzie River four miles northeast of Eugene was added to the state park system Wednesday when the state highway commission accepted it as a gift of S.C. Armitage of Portland, Oregon. The gift was tendered by Armitage in memory of his wife, Henrietta, and in honor of his daughter Frances.Collection
