One off-white bound scrapbook detailing the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Includes full newspapers tucked into back of scrapbook as well as clippings that were never mounted.
Scrapbook created and kept by Springfield resident Maxine Betty "Macky" Malkowski in 1963. The scrapbook was donated to the Museum by her daughter, Charlotte Kopple.
Maxine was born in 1919 in Ogalalla Nebraska to Albert and Mary (McQueen) Blevins. The family moved to Harrisburg Oregon in 1936, where Maxine married William Thomas that same year. She later remarried Lester Kurrasch in Albany, and finally married Nicolas Malkowski in 1991.
She moved to Springfield in 1945, where she worked as a nurses aide, waitress, sales clerk, and later worked for Chase Gardens and Packing House Gardening Roses. She also volunteered for Willamalane. She and her parents are buried in the Harrisburg Alford Cemetery.Acquisition
