Scope and Content

1941 November 15, report typed on the suicide of inmate Escriba Moran.

Context

Conditions were extremely harsh at Gusen. Of 67,677 prisoners, 31,535 died. Besides being executed, beaten, or worked to death, some desperate prisoners took their own lives. On November 15, 1941, Spanish inmate Francisco Escriba Moran flung himself across the electrified barbed wire at the camp perimeter to die by electrocution. After liberation, this drawing was discovered attached to a typewritten report in camp files recording his suicide.
