Tan envelope with cursive handwriting in German using black ink. At the top right corner, a blue 25-pfennig stamp depicting Adolf Hitler facing to the right. Overtop, a black ink cancellation dated June 8, 1944. At the left side an additional black ink cancellation dated June 8, 1944 is presnet. Underneath, a faded overprint stamp depicting the Reichsadler symbol appears.

Even though this envelope, canceled June 8, 1944, originated with the elite Nazi SS administration at Ravensbrück, it was thoroughly examined by German censors before leaving the country, and again by Swiss censors upon arrival at Zurich. 25 pfennigs was the single letter international rate from Germany. This cover was routed through Munich for censorship. Karl Heinz Riemer recorded the green censor marking across the tape as having been used from June until December 1944, so this is an early example.Collection
