On March 14 and 15, 1939, Hitler completed the dismemberment of Czechoslovakia, occupying Bohemia-Moravia and Slovakia, and creating vassal states of both, as Hungary annexed a portion of Carpatho-Ukraine. The Bohemia-Moravia Protectorate became part of Greater Germany. A November 24, 1939, 50-heller postal stationery parcel waybill posted at the Kutná Hora has an added 3-kroner stamp of Czechoslovakia and a 10-heller stamp of the Bohemia-Moravia Protectorate. The June 22, 1939, envelope from Bratislava to Paris is franked with a strip of five 50-heller provisional overprinted stamps for use in Slovakia; the slogan machine cancel commemorated Slovakia’s national independence. Stamps of Czechoslovakia remained valid as postage in the Protectorate until December 15, 1939, so the mixed franking on the waybill was legitimate.Collection
