Tan waybill with printed text and outline in German using black ink. Overprint black ink and purple ink stamps in German appear at the center. At the top right corner, a 4-koruna teal ink stamp depicting Bohemia-Moravia is present. Underneath, a 2.50-koruna blue ink stamp depicting Bohemia-Moravia is present. Overtop, two cancellations dated February 20, 1942 appear. At the top center, the Star of David is stamped in black ink.

Immediately following the German occupation, Nazis unleashed a reign of terror against Czech Jews, burned down synagogues, and confiscated Jewish assets. A Judenrat (Jewish Council) was established in Prague to administer the Nazis’ demands. Beginning in September 1941, Czech Jews were required to wear identifying yellow cloth badges in the shape of a Star of David, and shortly afterward, transports began to take Jews from the major cities to ghettos in Poland, the first stop en route to death camps. A February 20, 1942, waybill piece for an insured parcel sent by the Jewish Council of Prague. An April 12, 1943, letter from Milan, Italy, to a Slovakian Jew who had been transported to a ghetto or camp in Poland, censored by Italy at Milan, by Slovakia at Bratislava, and by Germany at Munich, returned to sender.Collection
