Just as in Germany previously, Nazi rule required concentration camps in Poland. The most notorious of all was Auschwitz, which opened officially on June 14, 1940, and was liberated by the Red Army on January 27, 1945. An Auschwitz prisoners’ formular envelope and contents canceled February 15, 1941, after examination by the camp censor (a faint boxed red censorship mark is at the lower left).Collection
