Context

Throughout the British Empire, the government incarcerated political activists of the left and the right, and Jews who had escaped from Germany and other countries of Nazi-occupied Europe, in internment camps. Political internee’s mail, censored June 18, 1943, at Pretoria, sent postage free from an Anti-Nazi Camp at Koffeefontein, South Africa, to an attorney at Johannesburg.
