Tan identification document with printed text and outline in German and Russian using black ink. At the left side, two fingerprints in black ink are present. At the right, a black-and-white photograph depicting Tamara Solima, a woman wearing a pattern dress or blouse with a doily collar. Her hair is pinned back. The number plate at the bottom of the picture reads, "347.2293." At the bottom right, a purple overprint stamp depicting the Reichsadler symbol appears. At the center, cursive handwriting in black ink appears as, "Solima Tamara."

The Nazis began large-scale recruitment of slave laborers from conquered Soviet territories in early 1942, reaching a total of one million by summer of that year, and two million a year later. Sent to work in German factories, they were forced to wear identifying “OST” (East) badges, the only group besides Jews to suffer this indignity. An identity document issued to 17-year-old Tamara Solima of Kiev on August 4, 1942. She was sent to work for the Otto Eckert firm at Dundenheim until December of that year, then to the Rudolf Eggs firm at Griesheim until December 1944.Collection
