Throughout the war, both sides dropped not only bombs, but also printed handbills, onto enemy forces, to undermine their morale, encouraging them to desert and to surrender. This horizontal-format leaflet, dropped over Italy on August 14, 1940, during an attack by the British Royal Air Force, urged Italians to cease being Adolf Hilter’s vassals. The vertical-format leaflet was dropped by United States forces on the German heartland in 1945, urging surrender to spare lives from useless sacrifice.Collection
