Context

With most of continental Europe devastated, and millions homeless, the victorious powers established Displaced Persons camps (some former concentration camps) to provide food, shelter, and basic necessities of life to people uprooted by war. This undated (circa 1948) postage free letter was mailed from the Bergen-Belsen Displaced Persons Camp in the British occupation zone of Germany to the Jewish Labor Committee in New York, some time after postal censorship had ended.
