Searching for missing relatives, friends, and colleagues became an urgent concern of Holocaust survivors and émigrés who had escaped the Nazis before the war began. Documentation centers sprang up in many places to assist the searchers, some of them organized by the survivors themselves. On this June 16, 1948, postal card from a Holocaust survivor in the British occupation zone of Germany, Theodor Koester, who had been imprisoned for seven years at the Buchenwald and Flossenbürg concentration camps, announced his search and information service to a newspaper in Miami, Florida.Collection
