One is a green 5-pfennig stamp, the other an orange 100-pfennig stamp. Overtop, a cancellation dated June 6, 1941 is present. At the center, a magenta ink overprint stamp is present. At the left side, an adhesive sticker with printed text in English using black ink.

This air mail envelope addressed to Cincinnati, Ohio, was canceled at Bremen, Germany, on June 6, 1941, six months before the United States entered World War II. It was examined and passed by German censors at Frankfurt, then dispatched to North America. En route, British censors opened and examined it at Bermuda, and found something objectionable inside. They confiscated the letter and held it for the duration of the conflict. In January 1946 it was released and carried to Ohio. It arrived in Cincinnati on February 12, where it was forwarded to a different address there, and then to Cleveland for eventual delivery.Collection
