Beige envelope with typed text in German using black ink. At the top edge, five stamps are present. Each stamp depicts a woman holding a large book with text, "Lusaidas." Three are 2300-cêntimos purple stamps. One is a pink 10-cêntimos stamp, another a grey 15-cêntimos. At the left side, an adhesive sticker with Reichsadler symbols. At the bottom left, a blue stamp reads, "POR AVIÃO / PAR AVION."

The Nazis themselves made use of undercover addresses, fronts, and the offices of established firms, such as the German News Bureau in Lisbon, as letter drops for spies, whose information could be coded and forwarded innocuously onward to Berlin. A December 5, 1942, air mail letter from the Portuguese office of the German News Bureau at Lisbon to the firm’s foreign bookkeeping office in Berlin, censored at Munich. The stamp set is apart of the Lusiads series commemorating the renowned Portguese poem, Os Lusíadas.Collection
