1941 January 7, Front side - Post card addressed to Russia censored in Berlin.
Tan post card with printed German and outline in red ink. Cursive handwriting in black ink is present at the right side. At the top right there are two stamps depicting President Paul von Hindenburg. One is a green 30-pfennig stamp, the other is a red imprinted 15-pfennig stamp. At the center top is a cancellation dated January 20, 1941. At the center is a Reco Zettel stamp with the letter R in red. At the center right is a red ink Reichsadler overprint stamp.

Mail censors provided by the Jewish Council performed their service for the Nazis perhaps even more strictly than the Germans themselves might have done. A Łódź ghetto censor passed the January 7, 1941, registered postal card addressed to Epshiki, Russia, was censored by Germany at Berlin and transited Moscow en route to its destination. Berlin censorship is unusual; ordinarily it would have been examined at Königsberg. A ghetto censor rejected the 6-pfennig Hindenburg card, dated November 19, 1941. The marking reads "In hebräischer und jiddische Sprache verboten" (Hebrew and Yiddish languages are forbidden).Collection
