1941 November 19, post card from Litzmannstadt (Łódź) Ghetto rejected and censored.

Context

Mail censors provided by the Jewish Council performed their service for the Nazis perhaps even more strictly than the Germans themselves might have done. A Łódź ghetto censor passed the January 7, 1941, registered postal card addressed to Epshiki, Russia, was censored by Germany at Berlin and transited Moscow en route to its destination. Berlin censorship is unusual; ordinarily it would have been examined at Königsberg. A ghetto censor rejected the 6-pfennig Hindenburg card, dated November 19, 1941. The marking reads "In hebräischer und jiddische Sprache verboten" (Hebrew and Yiddish languages are forbidden).
