Overtop is a cancellation dated June 24, 1942. Underneath is cursive handwriting in black ink. At the left side is a purple stamp from Bacau. Along the top edge are three cancellations dated June 23, 1942.

The tiny Romanian town of Suraia, District Putna, was the location of a Jewish labor camp. Inmates were treated so abominably that a 1942 document recorded an entire detachment observed laboring at a remote location completely naked.
