Blue envelope with cursive handwriting in German using black ink. At the top right corner is a blue 25-pfennig stamp depicting President Paul von Hindenburg. Overtop is a cancellation dated April 3, 1941. An additional rectangular stamp from Lutomiersk is stamped at the top right corner. At the top left corner is a stamp from the office of Jewish Elder Council. At the bottom left are two stamps with numbers 3284 and 5353 in red ink.

This undercover address, discovered by this exhibitor in 2003, is unlisted in the literature. Communications were sent onward to one of the international Jewish relief agencies, whose main headquarters were in New York and London, or to one of their offices in Switzerland. This April 3, 1941, letter from the Jewish Council at Lutomiersk, Poland, a suburb of Łódź, was censored at Munich. Lisbon arrival postmarks on the back are dated April 5. The Jewish population of Lutomiersk was just 750 in 1939, so mail from this sender is virtually unknown.Collection
