Hungarian Jewish physician, Géza Fisch sought refuge in Ecuador after facing persecution in Europe. After the 1938 annexation of Austria, Fisch was targeted and imprisoned. After his release due to a personal connection to the guard, he planned to leave Europe and immigrate to the United States. Fisch sought a visa from Romania for the United States, though a restriction on entries was instated. Thankfully, Fisch secured a visa for refuge in Ecuador. Within the year, he and his family reunited in Ecuador. According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Fisch had a falsified document of a wedding certificate between him and a neighbor, ensuring she would avoid being sent to a labor camp. Surely, this along with testimonies from his previous patients, assures Fisch as the wonderful man and doctor many claim he is.Collection
