Restuda Mukamugarura and Kizito Kalima graciously donated Restuda’s Rwandan ID card from the 1994 Rwandan Genocide to the Spungen Family Foundation artifact collection. Restuda, a Tutsi, was born in 1952 and was living in a village named Gasoro in Nyanza City when the genocide began. She was married to another Tutsi man, who changed his tribe and became Hutu, which allowed both of them to have identifications marking them as Hutu. During the genocide, Restuda hid among the Hutu in her village. Restuda’s father, Vincent Simugomwa was the younger brother to Kizito’s paternal grandmother, Leocadie Nyirabihogo.Collection
