Awarded to Stanisław and Stefania Pyrcak for their dedication to hide 17 Jews in their home in Sanok, Poland for 22 months from 1942-1944. Upon the Red Army's liberation of Poland in July 1944, the Jews in hiding finally emerged. According to the Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle, "The Pyrcaks' home was burned down twice by antisemites following the war." For their effort to protect Jews, the Pyrcaks were awarded $40 dollars a month for life from the Israeli government. Furthermore, Yad Vashem honored them with a medal to signify their belonging as "Righteous Gentiles".Collection
