He proved bloodletting in the treatment of Pneumonia was ineffective Medical Practitioners resistant to discontinuing the practice of blood- letting for febrile illness in 1823 were compelled to give it up by 1834 after Louis published an article based on his numerical data analysis of this treatment as a failure. He followed it up with a book length treatise published in 1834 through “The American Journal of the Medical Sciences” titled “An essay on Clinical Instruction” in 1834.
