A Spaniard and the Father of Modern Neuroscience and Neuroanatomy, he specialized in neuropathology, neuroanatomy and histology. His artistic illustrations of the nervous system are elaborate and famous. He won the Nobel prize for Medicine and Physiology in 1906 for “The Neuron Doctrine” ” .... the structure of the Nervous System.
His original investigations of the microscopic structure of the nervous system and his elaborate illustrations of his findings (still used today in Medical School Instruction) earned him the title of the Father of Modern Neuroscience.
