Description

WWI uniform worn by St. Charles resident Arnold Olson. Sergeant's uniform consisting of a) coat b) trousers c) shirt Tailor made, private purchase. A). Service Coat: olive drab wool, five large plastic buttons embossed with American eagle; four patch pockets, each with flap and button; epaulets held by plastic buttons; collar has hook and eye closure. Collar disks; right, US; left, ILL. Single patch i right sleeve, olive drab and white sergeants stripes and lyre for bandsman. Fully lined with brown cotton, striped sleeve lining. L 31" x 16.5" w excellent condition but has moth holes and nicks. B.) Trousers: olive drab wool, tailor made, same as coat. Two flap closures for front pockets with buttons, two slash pockets on rear with button flaps. Reinforced lower legs with eight button closures on cuffs Waist 30" inseam 24.5" More worn than coat, multiple moth holes C.) Shirt: Olive drab wool; epaulets with buttons. L 31" collar to hem; 16" shoulder to shoulder. Five moth nicks on outer underside of collar. Gift of Shirley and Ron Haedt 2001.56.35ab
