The 1849 California Trail Diaries of Elijah Preston Howell is Number 1 of the Emigrant Trails Historical Studies Series. This series was developed by the Oregon-California Trails Association (OCTA) to provide wider public access to emigrant documents. Elijah P. Howell's diary of his trip over the California Trail happened in one of the most important and dramatic emigrant years. Two versions of his diary are given - the Missouri Library version and the California Library version - side by side, making them more interesting. An Appendix, a Name Index and a General Index are included. 181/Softbound/Maps.
