"It was built in the 1880's by the St. Joseph Boating Association as a private men's Club for $50,000. In 1900, The St. Joseph Railway, Light and Power Company bought it, changed the name and turned it into a hotel. In its heyday, it had a dance floor built over the lake, tennis courts, and hotel-hosted regattas. It burned in 1924 and was never rebuilt.... St. Joseph, A Postcard History....Davis/White.Lexicon
