Lotus Club, Lake Contrary Photo Postcard, c. 1910. b/w photo of front of club house, a two-story white building with tall, pillared front, porch on first floor with balcony above. Steeple turrets, Circle Lane with flower bed. Full on front view. On back: "This series of St. Joseph News-Press Post Cards Consists of 16 subjects. A Post Card Coupon cut from the St. Joseph News-Press gets you one card. 15 coupons get you the entire series. No charge." "It was built in the 1880's by the St. Joseph Boating Association as a private men's Club for $50,000. In 1900, The St. Joseph Railway, Light and Power Company bought it, changed the name and turned it into a hotel. In its heyday, it had a dance floor built over the lake, tennis courts, and hotel-hosted regattas. It burned in 1924 and was never rebuilt.... St. Joseph, A Postcard History....Davis/White.
