City of the Saints and Across the Rocky Mountains to California. In 1860 Sir Richard Francis Burton, a British explorer, left England to explore the American West and visit the Mormons. Sir Burton provides detail on many Indian customs. Originally published in 1862, includes his observations, natural history of the plains & Rockies, study of this new Mormon Capital and the Mormon pioneers, an interview with Brigham Young and several apostles.
