Fairleigh, William G. Portrait Photo, c. 1900. sepia. Portrait photo of Fairleigh as older man, with white hair, balding, clean shaven except for short mustache. Wearing dark jacket/vest with dark bow tie. Head/shoulders view. Handwritten on back: "William G. Fairleigh".
In 1849 at age 19, William Fairleigh joined Milton Tootle in the dry goods business as the firm of Tootle & Fairleigh, in 1853 they began a wholesale trade. Later he owned a hardware business but sold that out to William Wyeth. He was involved in many business and real estate transactions including creating Forest city. He may be best known in St. Joseph for his estate south of Frederick between 26th St. and Noyes Blvd. now known as Fairleigh Terrace. He died in 1912.Made/Created
