I can remember in the early 1950's my grandmother giving me a quarter, telling me to get a loaf of bread and quart of milk, allowing me to buy a 3 Musketeer candy bar and still have change to give her back.
The bread was wrapped in wax paper and the milk had a cardboard stopper.
