Property C43: Barrel Drum with Sun Symbol Object: ceremonial drum, Artist/Maker: Oceti Sakowin (Sioux), Title/Model: Barrel Drum with Sun Symbol, Date/Region: ca. 1900 / Southwest, Medium/Technique: barrel, rawhide, nails, metal, leather and pigment / handmade, Edition/Series: unique, 1 of 1, Size: 4.25" H x 9.75" W, Condition: good, two holes on one side and one hole on one side all less than .75" Signature/Inscriptions: n/a, Exhibitions/Literature: March 13 - April 2000 at Campanella Gallery of Park University, Parkville, MO, Description/Notes: portion of a barrel has rawhide stretched over the top and the bottom and fastened with tacks that line the top and bottom of the exterior walls. A metal loop is attached to the center of the side and it is carried by a leather strap. On the top of the drum is a yellow sun outlined in red and four blue, evenly spaced blue rays. The sun symbol is on top and bottom of drum. Condition is appropriate for age.
