Josiah Beattie Moss: A compilation of articles written for The Union Observer, St. Joseph, Mo. by J.B. Moss as an elderly man in the 1930's. Fascinating accounts of the city as it was when he was a boy and as it grew. Mr. Moss saw the first Pony Express rider leave the stables and was on the spot an hour after Jesse James was shot. He had a perfect memory. He had traveled widely both out west, in Europe and the Middle East and had wonderful stories to tell of his adventures. These are lively and accurate accounts of St. Joseph and one of its citizens at a glorious period in the history of the city. There are also articles about Mr. Moss, his obituary, and other newspaper clippings relating to historical events of the time. Very recently, January 2020, a book of Mr. Moss's writings was edited and published by Gary Westcott of St.
Joseph, Mo., titled Gathering Moss, subtitiled, Growing up in the Wild-Wild Midwest. It is very well done.Photograph Details
