Description
The address of the St. Francis Hotel was 605 Francis Street. The St. Francis Hotel building filled 1/4 city block. The building included 601-613 Francis Street. Other businesses occupied spaces within this building at different addresses. Unless the business operated within the hotel itself, it wont be discussed here. The hotel housed the St. Francis Hotel Cooperative Club, the St. Francis Hotel Cigar Stand in the lobby and the St. Francis Tavern at 611-613 Francis Street.
The St Francis Hotel, formerly the Heaton House, opened October 1, 1880, by James Herson.
It was located on the corner of Sixth and Francis Streets
It was a well kept and highly popular house.
An addition of 45x52 feet three and a half stories high was made.
This rendered the entire depth of the building at 120 feet.
The street car line turned at the corner near which this hotel stood
The St Francis Hotel was located on the northeast corner of 6th & Francis, across the street from Townsend & Wall.
It was demolished and new Katz Drug Store was built in it's place operating at 601 Francis Street.
The Katz Drug Store later became Skaggs Drugs
Skaggs then moved to East Hills Shopping Center
I'm not sure what business is currently in the old Katz building
Skaggs closed their drug store at East Hills several years ago
