Below are provided several questions concerning the state hospitals in Missouri. I would like your opinion based upon your personal experienced and reflections.
1. How do you think residents of the city viewed the hospital and its patients?
2. How do other members of the community respond to you, given your position at the hospital?
3. Was anything done that improved or worsened the relationship between the community and the hospital or how the community viewed the hospital? For example, positive or negative media.
4. Do you think that the hospital's location in relation to the city have any effect on the public's attitude toward it?
5. How much fear do you believe there was in the community? Or, were residents more accepting of the institution's many patients?
6. How much (if any) mental health education was there in the city, in schools or elsewhere? Do you think people were hesitant because they did not understand mental illness, or were they accepting because they did understand?
7. How do you think the community's relationship with the hospital affected its eventual fate? For example, did the citizens play any role in Fulton, St. Joseph, and St. Louis staying open though downsizing while Nevada and Farmington closed?Lexicon
