She notes:
"Arthur Pryor (B. St. Joseph , MO 1870-1942). Pryor's father founded and led St. Joseph's Silver Cornet Band, which Arthur joined at age 12 or so. In 1892, he joined Sousa's band, and was soon an assistant conductor. Pryor began composing his own trombone solos, and became a star player with an international reputation in his own right. He left Sousa to form his own band in 1903. Many of his contemporaries claimed his was the better band, but Pryor, who became involved in recording and was a staff conductor for the Victor Talking Machine Company, was not the tireless trouper Sousa was in terms of touring nor, apparently, was he a showman at heart. He was happier in the recording studio."
