Annual Register of Indian Affairs 1835-1838 was a idea of Isaac McCoy to raise awareness and support of Indian Missions. The first issue in January, 1835 was entitled "The Annual Register of Indian Affairs Within the Territory". The second Annual Register was published in December, 1835 with the expense being defrayed by the Baptist Board of Missions. The third was issued about July 1, 1837. These three were printed at the Shawanoe Mission Station . It was located at what is now the intersection of Interstate 35 and Route 10, Kansas City, KS. It was the training center of Baptist Missionaries in the West. The fourth was printed in Washington, D. C.
These four Registers were all that were issued are of great historical value. McCoy, who was also a surveyor, provides us with precise locations of mission stations, forts, Indian agencies and settlements.
P. 294 includes information on the Ioway Mission managed by Samuel Irwin and his wife in Northeast Kansas near today's Highland Kansas, now known as the Native American Heritage Center.
McCoy, the first Baptist missionary to the Indians, helped create the plan to relocate Indians east of the Mississippi after the 1830 removal act. His plan included creating a separate territory in what is now Kansas and Oklahoma.
This is a reprint in the year 2000 of the original registers that were printed beginning in 1835.
